Art therapy for children

Art therapy means to get in contact with your feelings playfully.

Art therapy is a form of therapy that works with different artistic media. Art and painting offer children the opportunity to express their emotional experiences. In the artistic process, unconscious feelings and thoughts, as well as things that may remain unspoken in everyday life, can be portrayed in terms of design.

Today is characterized by high demands on us humans. Not only adults have to function and live with the pulse of the times, the same also applies to the children. The inner feeling worlds and the possibility to find a suitable expression for the everyday experience often remain on the line. Computer games replace the sensory experience in nature and the environment; Facebook replaces the communicative encounter in the game. FamiliƤre Probleme as well as with classmates, high performance demands in school and everyday life are topics which can be a problem for children. The resultant anxieties, moods, constraints, sleep disorders and psychosomatic symptoms are no longer just topics that only adults have to deal with.

Where can art therapy help?

Art therapy begins where words and access to the conscious ego experience are missing. Fears, dreams and desires, as well as feelings and thoughts, find a salutary valve through the artistic work. Through the joy of creative design, children have the opportunity to experience themselves, to get to know their needs better and to enter into communication with the environment through color and form.

In art everything is allowed that can not be elsewhere!

Through the creative act of painting the children learn how to consciously influence and change their problems and stressful life. They learn to assert themselves better in everyday life and to use their strengths in a targeted manner. Communication and social skills can be improved, self-confidence is strengthened.

In individual therapy, we specifically address the individual topic of the child. Through the emotional expression in art, the child learns to deal with his problems, life questions and fears better. Positive and negative experiences of everyday life can be processed through the design. In a protected room, all that the child can do is to live. Emotions such as anger, sadness and fear, but also joy, love and security, can be put through the creative process and exercised. It is about recognizing potentials, activating internal forces and then using them in everyday life. Together with the child, solutions are developed and thus the foundation for healing processes is created.

What materials are used?

During the sessions, materials such as paper and paints, clay, plaster and cardboard, as well as materials from nature (leaves, wood, flowers and stones) are used. There are no limits to the imagination!

Which therapeutic techniques are being applied?

In art therapy, the main focus is on artistic design. Another element is talks, which usually result from the design and contribute to deepening and strengthening the experience. Playful possibilities of self-adventure, fantasies and relaxation techniques help to gain access to the unconscious and to discover their own childlike resources.
